Imphal, September 26 2022:
CAF & PD and PHE minister L Susindro Meitei has strongly called for keeping books which could be of importance and benefit to future generations.
Minister L Susindro Meitei stated this at the 8th Foundation Day of Cine Writers & Playwrights Forum Manipur cum 3rd Manipuri film script competition award presentation ceremony.
As chief guest at the event, L Susindro said everyone has responsibility to promote a vibrant society in Manipur and script writers must also shoulder their responsibility in this regard by writing scripts based on contemporary issues.
He said that Shumang Leela, film, play and other art forms give awareness to people and accordingly script writers should concentrate on contemporary social issues and create awareness among the people so that positive change could be brought about in Manipur.
He also said that chief minister N Biren gave strict instruction to restrict publication of books with distorted history to save the state or else such books would mislead future generations.
Regarding steps being taken up by government to legalise liquor production and sale in the state, Susindro contended that a team of experts from Goa surveyed liquor production in Sekmai, Andro, Khurkhul and Phayeng.
The team told state government that the local liquor consumed in Manipur is not alcohol but poison, he said adding that using aluminium pot and plastic items in liquor production and storage cause chemical reaction and this could be main reason for increasing liver related diseases in the state.
He said that every household in Goa produces liquor but earthen pots are used in entire distillation process and storage unlike those used in Sekmai, Andro, Khurkhul and Phayeng.
According to L Susindro, organisations steadfastly opposing liquor legalisation in the state like CADA and leading Meira Paibi groups were invited for talks and share government's idea about liquor legalisation but none came forward till date.
However, government will wait for them and do the needful even if they decided not to hold talk.
Meanwhile, the 3rd Mani memorial script award was presented to Nabakumar Nongmeikapam, Gurumayum Sakhigopal award to Kshetrimayum Nirupama, Khomdram Bidhu and Khomdram Ongbi Leimakhubi Ningshing Mana to Naorem Doren and special jury award (Ishwarchandra Khwairakpam award) to Mangte Wesi Kom.
