Bishnupur, July 23 2022:
Demanding the construction of Enthic Heritage Park in Keibul Lamjao, the Demand Committee on The Construction of Ethnic Heritage Park today locked the gate of Keibul Lamjao National Park.
The committee also staged a sit-in protest in front of the national park today.
Speaking to media persons, a protester, Renubala stated that the sit-in was staged to protest the decision of the State Government to shift the Ethnic Heritage Park from Keibul Lamjao despite a number of assurances by Chief Minister N Biren Singh to construct the park in Keibul Lamjao.
She continued that the committee and people of Keibul Lamjao have made numerous appeals to construct the Ethnic Heritage Park in Keibul Lamjao and assist in saving the endangered brow-antlered deer (Sangai) .
She cautioned that if the CM fails to fulfil the aspirations of the people, the committee would be compelled to launch a series of agitations including ban of organising events/festivals related to Sangai.
"If the Government fails to comply with the demands of the committee within 10 days, the Government should relocate the brow-antlered deers and Government offices from Keibul Lamjao", she asserted.
Placards including, "Entry of tourists restricted till construction of Enthic Heritage Park", "No Sangai festivals if Ethnic Park not constructed in Keibul Lamjao", etc were extensively used at the protest.
