Motbung village embraces Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

A one-day Integrated Communication Outreach Programme (ICOP) on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was organised by Field Outreach Bureau, Senapati under the auspices of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting at Motbung village community hall in Kangpokpi district, on Sunday.
Kaikhosai Lhouvum, ex-executive member of Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi district, and Lunthang Lhouvum, secretary of Motbung village, attended the function as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Thangboi Kipgen, assistant professor Department of History, Rayburn College, Churachandpur, was present as the resource person.
Speaking at the event, Thangboi Kipgen pointed that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a celebration of India's 75th year of getting independence from the British and recalled the sacrifices made by Indian freedom fighters such as Jhansi ki Rani, Tantia Tope, Bahadur Shah II and also the role of moderate and extremist leaders of the Indian National Congress - Dadabhai Naoroji, Lai Bal Pal, WC Banerjec and SN Banerjee.
He also recalled the role of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, etc, and the movement under Mahatma Gandhi from 1919-1947, whose efforts resulted in the achievement of India's freedom on August 15 in 1947 .
This day marked the end of 200 years of British rule in India, he recounted.
After independence, India has made great progress in the held of education.
With the introduction of RTE 2009, the right to life as stated, in Article 21 of the Constitution, has become more meaningful.
The number of universities and educational institutions has also, increased leading to increased literacy rate, the assistant professor further said.
While maintaining that India has become a space power and it holds the eleventh position today in the world, Thangboi also mentioned that electricity is another area where India has made progress by leaps and bounds as most villages are electrified today.
In her keynote address, Waribam Urmila, held publicity officer, said that to commemorate and celebrate India's 75 years of independence, the Integrated Communication Outreach Programme on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was organised by Field Outreach Bureau, Senapati.
Similarly, various other activities are organised under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the different ministries across the country.
A Sankhil George, held publicity assistant, was the moderator of the programme.
As part of the outreach programme, a drama was performed by Mass Theatre, a private registered troupe under Regional Outreach Bureau, Imphal.
A quiz competition was also organised and prizes were distributed.
