Imphal, May 18 2023:
Bank Employees Fed-eration of India Manipur president S Bijoy has said that to bring back normalcy in the state, the government must seize all guns from civilians and ensure that only security force personnel carry guns to protect the public.
Addressing a press meet at BSNL Employees Union office under a Joint Co-ordination Committee of unions of central government employees, state employees, bank, LIC and other 30 departments on Thursday, S Bijoy mentioned that the violence that erupted since May 3 not only affected the general public but also central & state employees.
The prevail-ing restive situation adversely impacted relations between officers and office environment making it difficult for any work to be done, he added.
Bijoy also mentioned that out of around 35 communities settling in Ma-nipur the clashes was between Kuki and Meetei communities only.
Hence, CSOs of the other 33 communities should work with their communities in re-storing normalcy in the state, he further appealed.
Earlier, during the meeting of the vari-ous trade unions a two-minute silence was observed for vic-tims of the communal riots.
Displaced people draw Govt's attention IMPHAL: People belonging to the Meetei community who had to flee/leave Churachandpur after their houses and proper-ties were looted, torched and reduced to ashes but currently taking shelter in a relief camp in Bishnupur district raised posers on their forcible eviction from Churachandpur.
According to some Meetei people currently taking shelter at Jehovah Jireh English school, Thamnapokpi, settlement of Meetei people in Churachan-dpur district began from very early period but all the Meetei people were compelled to move out of Churachandpur as they and their houses were diaboli-cally targeted during the recent communal clash.
We lost ev-erything except the homestead land but when we will be able to return and rebuild houses in Churachandpur remains still uncertain, they said.
While informing that dis-placed people taking shelter in the relief camp are facing immense problem and could not even sleep well, they lamented that with exception of some officials who visited the camp some days there has been no help worth mentioning from the side of the government.
They also questioned to the government as to when will they be able to live peacefully and normally at their native place in Churachadnpur.
