Nine persons remain untraceable

Imphal, May 11 2023:
Two men identified as Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh (47) son of (late) Y Kalajit Singh and Atom Samarendra Singh (47) son of A Krishnamohan Singh, both from Khumbong Bazar remain missing since May 6 after they went out of their respective houses.
Two regular cases have been registered at Patsoi police sta-tion in connection with the two missing persons.
Meanwhile, locals of Ngairangbam, Khumbong and Leitong staged sit in protest de-manding authority concerned to trace the whereabouts of Atom Samarendra and Yumkhaibam Kiran.
Four Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) workers engaged fora project in Chura-chandpur district have been also reported missing since May 5.In this regard, state additional chief engineer (RED) has written to the DGP to trace their where-abouts, in addition to rescuing the 901 scheme workers strand-ed in various places of the state.
As per the letter addressed to the DGP, additional DGP (Intel-ligence) and Overall Operational Commander, four PMGSY work-ers working under PIU-3 of the Rural Engineering Department of Churachandpur Division in Churachandpur district went gone missing amidst the violence in the state.
The four scheme workers are Soibam Othelo Singh (44) of Sagolband Heinoubok, Puchu-mayum Ibochou (50) of Oksu, Kshetrimayum Sunil Kumar (21) of Kumbi and Chendipao Rangmei (22) of Tamei.
The last contact with the four was on May 5 around 9pm during which they informed that they have come out of from the worksite.
The letter further urged au-thority concerned to take up steps to rescue the 562 workers stranded in Churachandpur dis-trict, 149 in Chandel district and 190 in Ukhrul district, and bring them back safely to !global.
On the other-hand, three persons who went to their houses at Torbung Bangla have also gone missing on Thursday.
The three persons have been identified as Naorem Tomcha alias Prakash (33) s/o Chaobal, Thongam Shyam (34) s/o Achou both from Torbung Bangla and Leichonbam Suraj alias Lulu Meitei (23) s/o late Mohen Meitei of Terakhongsangbi.
They were staying at relief camps open in the area.
Addressing media persons at Phougakchao Ithai on Thurs-day, one Wangkhem Mohen of Phubala Makha Leikai said that he along with 6 other persons including the three missing persons went to collect goods left at their respective houses.
As he along with Shyam and Suraj were trying to gather the goods, some 4/5 armed persons suspected to be Kuki militants shouted and rushed towards them and attacked him in which his left shoulder received cut wounds.
He managed to escape from the militants and took shelter at the camp of 10th BSF in Torbung Bangla while Shyam and Suraj were left behind.
He further informed that when he along with a BSF of-ficer went to the place where he was attacked, the militants had already left and Suraj and Shyam also could not be found.
Their mobile phones have also been switched off.
Therefore, it is very likely that both of them have been taken away by the Kuki militants.
On the other hand, one Naorem Kaiku s/o Moirangn-ingthou who along with his two friends went to their respective homes at Torbung Bangla to col-lect materials also said that he saw one Naorem Tomcha alias Prakash of Torbung Bangla in the custody of armed militants.
The police have conducted search operation in suspected areas to trace the three missing men but their whereabouts re-main unknown.
