CADA observes World AIDS Day

Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) observed World AIDS Day under the WHO theme 'Equalize' at its Konung Mamang head office on Thursday.
The observance function was attended by LEIMAKOL president MC Rita as chief guest, CADA president Hijam Priyokumar as functional president and United People's Front, Manipur president Nongthombam Rupachandra as guest of honour.
Delivering the key note address of the observance, CADA secretary general Geetchandra Mangang said CADA has been organising HIV/AIDS awareness programme at different places of the state since the past many years to check spread of the dreaded disease.
He said that CADA is very much concerned on spread of HIV/AIDS in the state and accordingly conducted awareness programmes so that people have full knowledge about the disease.
In her speech, LEIMAKOL president Rita said HIV/AIDS is also spread when women marry rich men without conducting HIV test before marriage and such women often face social stigma when their husbands succumb to the disease.
To prevent spread of HIV/ AIDS, Manipur AIDS Control Society has been creating awareness to people since 2005 and the campaign has been bearing fruit as majority of the people of the state are now aware about the disease and how it spread, she added.
