No more off day: Women vendors

Women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel organised a sit-in protest at Nupi Keithel No 1 on Sunday demanding the government to lift the trade-off day on first day of every lunar month.
Interacting with the media during the protest, Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup general secretary Laishram Memma said that the government imposed no-trade day on the first day of every lunar month after normal trade activities resumed in Khwairamband Keithel following normalisation of Covid-19 pandemic situation.
They also welcomed the policy of the government considering the threat of Covid-19.Unfortunately, the imposition does cover street vendors and shops as is evident from conduct of their trade freely on these trade-off days as well, she said.
Memma said that they will be happy to oblige with the rule of the government if it also applied to the street vendors and shops as well as the women vendors of temporary market.
Considering the situation, they have decided to carry on with their normal trade from the first day of this Hiyangei, she said while urging the govern ment to lift the restriction to avoid any confrontation.
