Anti-liquor drive conducted; cops, CSOs maintain vigil

As a part of the measures being taken up to ensure peaceful celebration of New Year's Eve and New Year, Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA) Jiribam District Committee, Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) and Jiribam police jointly launched drive against liquor and other addictive substances by frisking vehicles coming from Jirighat, Assam towards Jiribam.
Speaking to media persons, CADA Jiribam president Yumnam Sumati informed that the drive was carried out to ensure disturbance-free celebration of New Year's Eve and New Year day so as to save the future generations from the menace of drugs and alcoholism.
The youth are the future pillars of the society and it is the responsibility of all to keep them away from drugs and other harmful substances, she stressed and lauded all those who helped in carrying out the drive.
Several alcoholic beverages including king fisher beer, Royal Stag, McDowell's, Black Dog and Red Bull were seized during the drive.
The seized items were disposed of by burning in front of the people.
Similarly, teams of Moreh police and Moreh commando personnel along with community leaders and volunteers of Moreh-based Meetei Council, Manipuri Muslim Council, Hill Tribal Council, All Committee Development Organisation, Kuki Students' Organisation, Tamil Sangam, Gorkha Samaj Samiti and Kuki Khanglai Lompi maintained vigil throughout the night at different localities of the border town to prevent occurrence of unwanted incidents during celebration of New Year's eve and New Year.
