If there is adequate availability of fish feeds in the State, then sufficient production of fish for whole people of the State could be achieved, said K Saratkumar, Director of Fishery Department while attending the World Food Day 2014 observed by Commerce & Industries Department at Food Processing Training Hall, Porompat here today.
Speaking as guest of honor, Saratkumar further said that most of the people of hills and valley ate fish as one of their favorite dishes.
He added that the State could able to produce 28, 000 metric ton of fish against the required 40, 000 metric ton with the remaining required quantity importing from other States.
He conceded that the production of fish in the past years has increased considerably but it is not meeting the demand of the people.

Asserting that production of fish could be accelerated if there is adequate quantity of fish feeds in the State, he maintained that the Fishery Department has been taking up various measures from time to time like giving training to fishermen and increasing number of fingerlings to facilitate production of fish in the State.
John Langtinkhuna, Director of Commerce & Industries Department; O Dhaneshwar, retd Officer of Commerce & Industries Department and N Nabachandra, former Director of Song & Drama Division, Government of India were also present at the occasion as chief guest, president and guest of honor respectively.
Along with releasing a souvenir to mark the occasion, a technical session was also conducted during the observance function.
