State trio to participate in national handloom fair

The District Handloom Expo organised by Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL) under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles concluded at Panthoibi Emporium, Paona Keithel, here, on Friday.
Weavers' Service Centre assistant director M Ibohal, MHHDCL general manager (administration) Th Basanta and Imphal East project manager Th Ibemcha attended the closing ceremony as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibohal informed that a national level fair for Sari will be held, within this month and three weavers of the state including two award winners will be participating in the fair.
They will produce Silk Sari with Moirang Phijin in the fair, which is going to be organised by the Ministry of Textiles to promote handloom products from all over the country, he said.
The assistant director also urged weavers interested in participating in national level fair, expo or exhibition to consult with Weavers' Service Centre.
He further said that Reliance Company is taking up an initiative for online sale of handloom products of the state for which a team from the company would be visiting to finalise product types, which might include cushion cover, pillow cover and bedsheets among others.
The team comprising experts in garment designing will arrive here on December 16.Interested weavers will get the opportunity to directly interact with them during their visit, he added.
Regarding the expo, he said that it was organised at the district level with the objective to showcase the handloom products, sell and promote them.
Such expo gives a boost to economy of the weavers.
Similar events are organised throughout the year under the ministry, he said, while urging weavers to participate in such events.
