Fires gut ply factory, Sainik School hostel

Imphal, February 25 2023:
In two major incidents of fire on Saturday, a ply factory located in Kangpokpi and a hostel of Sainik School Imphal, Pangei were reduced to cinders.
According to Imphal Fire Service, on receipt of information around 10.24 am about outbreak of an inferno at Kanglatongbi ply factory, team of Imphal Fire Service along with 3 fire tender vehicles and a water pump rushed to the site and managed to put out fire completely at 4:06 pm.
However, the inferno has caused irreparable damage to a block of the factory utilised as living quarters for the labourers, the source added.
On the other hand, the Imphal Fire Service received information of another fire at Sainik School hostel around 12:17 pm.
A team of the station rushed to the spot with four fire tender vehicles and a water pump and managed to extinguish the fire around 4 pm.
Properties including belongings of the students residing in the hostel were completely destroyed by the inferno.
However, the exact cause of both the fire incidents is not known, the source added.
A major portion of hostel of the School, located about 7 km from Imphal city was destroyed in the fire that apparently started from the adjoining dried paddy field.
The fire started destroying inside the Raman house, a boy's hostel which has 7 rooms providing accommodations to about 200 students.
The hostel engulfed in the fire was occupied by students studying from class VIII to XII standards.
Assam Rifles, Manipur police and local residents joined in controlling the fire.
It is informed that the fire broke out when the hostellers had gone out to attend the classes in the school being run by the government of India.
