Transport Minister launches ITDP (WADI-II) at Halang

Veterinary & Animal Husbandry and Transport Minister Khashim Vashum on Saturday launched Integrated Tribal Development Project (WADI-II) at village community hall, Halang, Ukhrul.
The ITDP (WADI-II) was funded by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Manipur and implemented by Ukhrul District Community Resource Management Society (IDCRMS) in Ukhrul district.
The launching ceremony was attended by Khashim Vashum; Khai Siamlal Guite, DGM, NABARD; and Krishna Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Khashim Vashum urged all to invest today for the future generations.
"The seeds planted today will surely benefit the future generation", he added.
Expressing his concern over the abnormal increase of illegal vehicles in the State, the Minister stated that the State Government is serious about the issue and is in the process of formulating policies to curb all perpetrators as per the law.
He also appealed to the villagers to cooperate with the District Administration in executing the project to bring tangible development in the district.
Khai Siamlal Guite urged all the visiting bank officials to sanction KCC for the villagers who are permanently engaged in farming to avail maximum benefit.
"The project may be small but through convergence with line departments, it will help fulfil expectations of the public and create a sustainable economy for rural farmers", said Krishna Kumar.
Somipam Lungleng, Manager Natural Resource & Livelihood, UDCRMS Ukhrul stated that the project ITDP (WADI-II) aims at enhancing the livelihood scenario of 200 tribal families by providing WADI (small orchard) along with conservation measures for soil, moisture and water.
"5 villages namely Halang, Halang Ato, Peh, Pharung and Ngainga were included in the second phase of the project and out of which 200 beneficiaries will be selected for orchard development", said Somipam while adding that the beneficiaries would be supported for a period of 6 years.
Somipam continued that under the project, credit linkage with local banks from second year onward will be provided as financial support to the farmers.
Later, Khashim Vashum along with Ukhrul Krishna Kumar and Khai Siamlal Guite planted Kachai Lemon at the residence of village headman.
District Project Director UDCRMS, Lily Rose; DFO, Shangam Shaliwo; headman of Halang village and farmers from the 5 villages attended the event.
