Sit-in protests scheme fund, PRI poll delays

Members of Manipur State Panchayat Parishad and job card holders staged sit-in protest in front of the office complex of DC Imphal East, Porompat on Tuesday demanding early release of MGNREGS fund and declaration of schedules for Panchayat elections.
Interacting with media persons at the protest venue, Thoubal District Panchayat Parishad general secretary Naorem Pradip said that the demonstration was organised as per resolution adopted by the Manipur State Panchayat Parishad during its meeting held on November 3.The tenure for the Gram Panchayats expired on October 24 and yet the government has not taken up any steps to hold the 6th General Panchayat Election till date, he pointed out, while demanding the government to declare the election schedules at the earliest.
On the other hand, withholding fund for MGNREGS is affecting the job card holders.
Many of the job card holders would not be able to visit even the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival, he said, while demanding the government to release fund for MGNREGS, which was already sanctioned by the Centre to the state government on June 23 .
