Club threatens road block over drivers' abduction

Khurai Social Youth Club (KSYC) has cautioned of launching road block protest in Khurai Lamlong Bazar from Sunday if drivers of Tata trucks abducted by suspected Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) from Khoupum area are not released.
Speaking to media persons at Khurai Lamlong Bazar on Saturday, KSYC advisor Munindro Waikhom informed that drivers Thangjam Pal (42) of Khurai Puthiba Leikai and Maibam Mani (45) of Khurai Chingangban Leikai were abducted on May 18.While urging authorities concerned to look into the matter, he cautioned to not only resorting to road block agitation from Sunday but also launch intense forms of protest if the drivers are not set free.
Joining the media briefing, Pal's brother Th Ahantakumar recalled that his younger sibling went for bringing in fertilisers from Jiri on May 18 after one Takhelmayum Robin of Khurai Thoudam Leikai hired engaged for the job.
On May 19, Pal called his family and informed that he was detained by some people in connection with monetary demand.
Pal said that he had contacted Robin and the latter assured to secure his release soon, Anantakumar said, while recalling that his brother called for the last time telling the family to search for Robin, after which his phone remained in switch-off mode.
While stating that he fears for his brother's life, Anantakumar also contended that silence and indifferent attitude of Robin is creating suspicion and anxiety to the family.
Robin had previously informed the family that he contacted minister concerned and reported to the police, but it came to light that he didn't even report it to the police.
As such, all the responsibilities regarding the incident should be borne by Robin, the brother continued, while adding that the club and families will lodge a complaint to Khoupum PS.
The press conference was held in the presence of families of the abducted drivers, elub members and locals.
