More landslides occur in Twilang area

Many more landslides were reported on Sunday in the Twilang area owing to the incessant rainfall causing additional misery to the already suffering Twilang people.
At least two landslides were reported in Gelnal village and the Joint Monitoring Development Committee had a hard time clearing the debris.
Five major landslides were also reported at three places near Tamei, eight in between Chalwa and Selsi, one between Gelnal village and Joupi village, between Gelnal and Banglabung village, at Gorkha Jhil, Gorkha Harup, Bajagara, and near Panikheti along the PMGSY road.
The non-stop rainfall also triggered earth fissures along the PMGSY road near Lamchok that connects T Vaichong sub-divisional headquarters with the district headquarters via Imphal-Tamenglong road.
The JMDC informed the general public to avoid non-emergency traveling considering the present scenario of the area.
An electric pole along with the wire was also pulled down by the swollen river on Saturday at Gelnal village which had completely blackout the Twilang area.
However, the youth of Gelnal village and members of JMDC led by a contractual staff of the department concerned retrieved the electric pole along with the wire to re-establish power supply.
The JMDC of IT Road chairman, Lutngam Manlun said, "We have done whatsoever we can in our capacity without much involvement of the state government till today in the larger interest of the public.
We have already exhausted all our resources".
He then appealed to the authorities concerned, the elected representatives from the area, and the government to help the people without further delay.
