Tirupati meet dissects issues of college teachers

A team of five delegates of AMCTA, which attended the 31st Statutory Conference of All India Federation of University & College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO) held at SV University, Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh from January 7 to 9, returned to the state on Sunday.
According to an AMCTA release, a national seminar on the theme "NEP 2020 & the future of Higher Education - Post Covid Scenario" was also conducted as a part of the conference.
The delegates who represented Mani-pur were M Lokendro Singh, Oriental College (president); Th Nabachandra Singh, Churachandpur College (VP); Dr M Imocha Singh, Modern College (general secretary); P Priyokumar Singh, CI College (joint secretary) and Dr Th Manglem Singh, Modern College (executive member).
The conference was attended by a large number of delegates from different states across the country with adherence to the SOP protocols of Covid-19 .
During the conference, M Lokendro Singh was re-elected unopposed as a national secretary of AIFUCTO for the term 2021-23 .
During the delegate session, Dr M Imocha placed the issues and grievances of college teachers of Manipur while AIFUCTO reiterated its demands for withdrawal of NEP-2020 and NPS and for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.
Some of the many resolutions adopted by the conference included maintenance of the secular and democratic flavour as per the Constitution in higher educational institutions; increase of expenditure on education to at least 6 per cent of GDP in real term; discontinuation of clustering of educational institutions; prevention of drop out of students from various courses; filling up of vacant posts of teacher in states as well as central level universities; implementation of the UGC regulations issued with 7th pay revision by states; implementation of 7th pay recommended scale in all self-financing colleges and implementation of Supreme Court order for equal pay for equal work; and no closure of subject, no closure of institution due to low enrolment.
The conference also resolved that "all state governments should implement UGC's direction of the extension of date for RC/OC; all contractual/ad hoc teachers should be absorbed in vacant positions following proper procedure; blended learning policy introduced by UGC should be scrapped; reservation policy to be continued as a constitutional prevision; special financial support to be given to female students especially from minority group; tuition fee for SC, ST & OBC and girl students to be waived for creating better access for weaker section; and special stipend to be announced by the central as well as states governments to the COVID-19 victim students whose parents were adversely affected the pandemic" .
