Women in Manipur and their problems discussed

Imphal, June 15 2014:
A day-long discussion programme on the theme 'Women in Manipur' was organized by Manipur Women Development Forum at State Guest House, Babupura here on Saturday.
It was attended by L Ibetombi, Chairman of Manipur State Women Commission (MSWC); Somorjit, advisor of Manipur Women Development Forum; Ch Memiyat, president of the forum and Dr K Sobita, Director of Art & Culture as Presidium Members.
Speaking on the occasion, L Ibetombi said that there is a need to create more awareness to curb crime against women and informed that a total of 433 cases of crime against women and children have been registered with MSWC since its inception in 2007 .
She stated that women in the State need to unite together and extend help amongst them to thwart such crime.
Participating in the discussion, Ukhrul district ADC member Ayao opined that when the women are armed well with the knowledge of their rights given by the Constitution of India it will be much easier for the fairer sex to deal any given situation more conveniently.
Ayao called for more awareness programmes on rights of women.
