UFM calls for ending poll violence

Terming as unfortunate pre-poll violent incidents like gun firing and lighting among workers of intending candidates in some assembly constituencies, United Front Manipur (UFM) has urged everyone to refrain from indulging in violence while conducting activities related with the upcoming state assembly election.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, UFM chairman Sapam Samungou drew the attention of chief minister N Biren, who is also in-charge of home department, to look into the matter so as to prevent poll related, violence.
Legal actions should be taken up against the candidates concerned for abetting violence and confrontation, he suggested.
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress president and UFM working president Dr Kh Inaocha also urged the government to provide adequate security to leaders of political parties and take up necessary initiatives so as to ensure free and fair conduct of the upcoming election.
Posters inscribing 'Let's refrain from violence in election' and 'Giving votes to the desired candidates is the right of people' were also released during the press conference.
