Comedian Surmangol succumbs to Covid-19

Imphal, June 13 2021:
Renowned comedian and Nokphade artiste Thokchom Surmangol of Thoubal Kshetri Leikai succumbed to Covid-19 on Sunday morning.
He was 41 .
Surmangol was a comedian with originality and good story narrating skills.
He made his first appearance in Part-V of the popular Nokphade series in 1998 and gradually carved a niche for himself in Manipuri Cinema as an actor in comic role.
He also participated in various audio and street plays.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
In a release, Nokphade Cultural Foundation deeply condoled the sudden demise of comedian Surmangol and observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
His demise will leave a huge void which no one could fill in, it added.
In another release, Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) mourned the demise of Surmangol and shared grief and pain of the bereaved family.
MSFDS also mourned the death of producer of 'Lucy Thoibi' (2019), Wangkhem Basanta Singh, who succumbed to kidney failure on May 24 at his residence at Porompat Thawan Thaba Leikai.
The late film producer is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
In the memory of the two departed souls, candles were lit at the Manipuri Cinema Memorial at MSFDS complex, Palace gate on Sunday evening.
