National Lok Adalat held, Rs 1.5 crore settled

As a part of National Legal Services Authority calendar programme, Manipur State Legal Services Authority conducted National Lok Adalat for the second time in the state on Saturday and cases amounting to around Rs 1.5 crore were settled.
The National Lok Adalat for Imphal East and Imphal West districts was jointly conducted at ADR building Lamphelpat.
Similar Lok Adalats were also held in Bishnupur, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur and Chandel districts as well as at High Court of Manipur here.
The National Lok Adalat organised by MASLSA for Imphal East and Imphal West was conducted through video conferencing by three benches.
The first bench comprised district and sessions judge M Manojkumar as chairperson and advocate Ch Nanda as member.
The second bench had district and sessions judge Imphal East RK Memcha as chairperson and advocate B Supriya as member while retired district and sessions judge A Noutuneshwari was the chairperson and advocate Ch Momon member of the third bench.
Bank/insurance companies and other parties attended the Lok Adalat conducted through online, during which five civil cases, five criminal cases, ten MACT cases and nine family matter cases were disposed.
Moreover, a total sum of Rs 1,46,79,803 pertaining to 102 cases including 98 bank recovery cases and four other cases were settled.
It is said that in addition to the National Lok Adalat which will be held on September 11 and December 11, MASLSA will conduct state Lok Adalat from time to time.
Meanwhile, MASLSA member secretary Ojesh Mutum has urged public, government departments, private institution and other bodies to refer their pending cases to MASLSA or district legal services authority for settling the .
On the other hand, district legal services authority, Churachandpur organised a National Lok Adalat and settled cases amounting to Rs 8,94,594.15 on Saturday.
The Lok Adalat was presided over by district and sessions judge cum chairman DLSA Churachandpur N Keertichand and advocate Songzamang Tombing and BAR Churachandpur president Lalrinchhana Bawitlung attended as members.
During the Lok Adalat, 7 pre-litigation cases were heard and cases amounting to Rs 8,94,594.15 for Punjab Bank and Canara Bank were also settled.
