Man drowns in river, another found dead

Imphal, November 07 2022:
A 75-year-old man has drowned in Imphal river near Khongnang Pheidekpi under Singjamei PS on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Okram Gambhir of Khongnang Pheidekpi.
He was an employee at the Horticulture Department.
According to the family, the septuagenarian reportedly had gone down to the river to take a bath at around 11 am on Monday but failed to return home.
The family then went to the river and found one of his sandals floating on the water, following which they started searching for him.
The family contacted Manipur Fire Services, SDRF and Singjamei Police, all of whom assisted in the search.
Md Ashatullah, who is known as Eshing Maiba (water priest) was also contacted.
Later, Gambhir's lifeless body was found near Bashikhong Thongkhong, around 2-3 km from the spot he was suspected to have slipped into the river.
In another incident, the lifeless body of a man was found near North AOC section of Kangla Pat road, under Imphal PS on Monday morning.
The deceased has been later identified as Leikhram Punshiba alias Naomacha (21) s/o (L) Ibungo of Chalou.
According to a police report, the body was spotted by pedestrians around 11.30 am Monday.
A team of Imphal PS arrived at the area and conducted an inquest of the body, in addition to retrieving the same.
A case has been registered by the PS in this regard and the body kept at RIMS morgue for post mortem examination.
