Imphal, March 06 2022:
In a bizarre incident, a very much alive woman found her name deleted from the electoral roll on account of being declared "dead", thereby preventing her from exercising her right to vote.
The "dead" woman has been identified as Sarangthem Bala (34) d/o Sarangthem Sanatomba of Kakching Khunou Lamhaba Leikai, Sugnu AC.
The matter came to light when Bala went to cast her vote at Polling Station 39/9 (A) - Tampakmayum Lower Primary School in Sugnu AC during the second phase of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election conducted on Saturday, but found her name deleted from the voters' list.
Speaking in this regard, Bala urged the authority concerned to explain why her name was deleted from the voters' list.
She then said that the deletion of her name from the list without her consent is an act of denying her right to vote, while recounting that she has voted in the previous Lok Sabha election.
Further stating that she was forcefully denied her right, Bala said that the matter shows lack of attention and wilfulness on part of the BLOs.
As such, she demanded the authority concerned to take up appropriate action on the matter.
