National Nutrition Week underway

National Nutrition Week programme was kicked-off on Tuesday at the State Bal Bhavan conference hall, Khuyman Lampak here.
The week-long programme is being jointly hosted by Community Food & Nutrition Unit, Ministry of Women & Child Development and Department of Social Welfare.
Social Welfare Department Principal Secretary Sidartha Dev Burman and Director Dr Rangeetabali Waikhom attended the opening ceremony as chief guest and president.
A workshop was organised as part of the programme.
Speaking during the workshop, RIMS Community Medicine Prof Th Achouba said people who eat nutritious food and live in pollution-free environment lead a healthy life.
He stressed on the need for knowing right ways for eating food by everyone and noted that developed countries take up extra steps to ensure healthy life to their citizens.
Prof Achouba said impure water makes one sick and that health of people living in polluted areas is harmful.
There is need to produce good foodstuff and vegetables to avoid health hazard, the Professor added.
He also highlighted the need for taking extra care of one's health in view of the present environment.
