Imphal, August 25 2021:
Ichum Keirap Kom Village Authority has rebutted the statement by Kom Union (KU) president, which was published in some state dailies on August 22 regarding an incident that took place at the village on July 17 .
In a release, Village Authority chairman L Rekhupsong Kom contended that the statement by the KU president is a blatant lie and attempt to cover up misdeeds as KU leaders as well as the culprits who physically assaulted helpless women including a pregnant lady.
Ichum Keirap Kom village had decided to boycott the KU leaders including L Kaikam for betraying and going against the will of Kom people.
Hence, Haopu Kom, who hails from the village, also tendered his resignation in protest against the act of cowardice of KU in abandoning the Union's 'neutrality and Manipur integrity stance', it asserted.
The VA also claimed that 'migrants', over a period of time, have secretly conspired and planned to snatch the ancestral lands of the village with the help of neighbouring villages.
The perpetrators involved in the July 17 incident are still at large but somehow managed to exert pressure on New Keithelmanbi police station for lodging false cases against the Ichum Keirap Kom VA chairman, the statement maintained and appealed to the state government to conduct unbiased probe on the role of New Keithelmanbi police station OC and officers concerned for not taking action against the criminals.
The Village Authority rubbished the claim of such group of people and their instigators, while affirming that the villagers will fight till the last man to defend their ancestral land.
It also expressed gratitude to the people of Manipur and in particular the Haomee Foundation for standing in support of the indigenous Ichum Kom, while further cautioning that if any individual or Union including KU makes any unsubstantiated and irresponsible statements, then Ichum Keirap Kom village will not hesitate from taking up legal action in this regard.
