Entrepreneur Thangjam Arunkumar joins BJP

Imphal, December 23 2021: Intending candidate in Wangkhei assembly constituency Arunkumar Thangjam has joined BJP and he was accorded, a warm welcome during a formal reception function held at the party's Nityaipat Chuthek office here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda maintained that the hill-valley unity has been strengthened after BJP came to power in the state and the 'Welcome to South Nagaland' signboard erected in Senapati district has been removed, The Congress government created misunderstanding and communal tension between the hills and valley but it is no longer present in the present scenario, she said.

Asserting that the people-centric initiatives of the BJP government and its welfare schemes have strengthened the trust of the public on the party and as a result more and more youth are joining the party as the election date approaches, she said decision of Arunkumar Thangjam to join BJP will further increase the party's strength.

Briefly speaking on the occasion, Arunkumar hailed the policies and programmes of the BJP-led governments both at the Centre and in the state while stating that such policies are his reason df joining the party.

He expressed belief that the party will consider his position and potential in choosing the candidature for Wangkhei AC.

He entered electoral politics with the objective to bring developmental changes in the constituency, he said while assuring of chalking out plans and policies to create employment opportunities for youth and take major roles in resolving issues concerning the state such as border issue and framework agreement.

Later, Arunkumar participated in the last leg of PadYatra organised as part of his election campaign.

The rally started from Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal and culminated at Hotel Imphal after passing through different parts of Wangkhei AC.

Mention may be made here that Arunkumar joined Congress in August 2020.He is now in the race for BJP ticket for the 2022 state assembly election in Wangkhei AC along ex-MLA Okram Henry and sitting MLA Yumkham Erabot.

Arunkumar is the proprietor of Arun Enterprises.

Welcoming the businessman into the party fold, Sharda Devi tweeted "Inspired by PM Modi's vision of a strong and developed India, Arunkumar Thangjam of Wangkhei joins BJP party".

Last year, entrepreneur Thangjam had joined the Congress party in presence of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) leaders, including CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh.

The seat of Wangkhei AC had remained vacant after MLA Okram Henry resigned from the Congress and joined the BJP.

In April this year, Yumkham Erabot of BJP took oath as a member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Wangkhei AC subsequent to court decree.
