AMESCO, AMUCO co-host Gaan-Ngai festival

All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) organised Gaan-Ngai celebration of Kabui community at Hiyangthang Kabui village on Sunday.
'Pakhangfan Makok (head)' Amusana Kamei and Ahanjao Kamei, Hiyangthang Mamang Leikai Meira Paibi general secretary H Thoibi, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Lup general secretary Apabi, All Manipur Voluntary Organisation vice-president S Romita, Committee on Human Rights chairman Phulindro Konsam, AMESCO vice-president L Ibotombi and local elders attended the celebration.
According to AMESCO, the festival was organised with the objective to strengthen the blood relationship between Kabui and Meetei as well as other indigenous communities of the state.
Gifts were exchanged as part of the festival.
On the other hand, All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) co-hosted Gaan Ngai festival at Khoupum Satidai village in Noney district on Sunday, the second day of the five-day festival.
Exchange of gifts between hill and valley dwellers was the main highlight of the event.
In a statement, AMUCO informed that in the past, those in the valley area used to go to hills after the harvesting season and check for encroachment from outsiders.
Through such practice and interaction, the people of Manipur from both the hills and valley protected the boundary.
Gaan Ngai is also a post-harvesting festival, which has historical significance reflecting the blood relationship among the indigenous communities.
It is time to celebrate the festival in the true essence while at the same time leveraging it to bolster the integrity and unity of the state and its people, tne statement said.
