Imphal, November 09 2021:
All Manipur Muslim Organisation Co-ordination Committee (AMMOCOC) has appealed to political leaders not to mislead the people of hills and valley and play with their sentiments as a tool to woo voters in the upcoming election.
In a release, AMMOCOC general secretary Md Wahidur Rahaman said that different communities residing in both the hills and plain have been helping one another in times of need and living united since time immemorial.
Unfortunately, it is observed that the communities, which were once united, have become fragmented due to internal and external forces.
As ethnic and identity politics thrive, the state has now become very sensitive place to live in, he maintained.
While stating that the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election is scheduled in the early months of 2022, the general secretary observed that political leaders upon seeing the sensitiveness and sentiments of the people are taking undue political advantage keeping in mind the upcoming election.
Some valley candidates are voicing against hill leaders claiming they are trying to disintegrate Manipur and cited reason for contesting election to Save Manipur.
Similarly, some hill leaders are trying to mislead the hill people stating that the valley leaders are infringing upon the rights of the hill people, Wahidur noted.
He stated that with the nearing of the election, proposing to table The Manipur Hill Areas Committee Bill 2021' by hill MLAs through Hill Areas Committee has caused confusion among the hill and valley people.
It is unfortunate that some hill leaders are trying to mislead its people by organising consultative meetings at several places.
Such act is nothing but playing with the sentiments of people to woo voters in the election, Wahidur denounced.
While claiming that the move to table the Manipur Legislative (Hill Area Committee) Bill in the assembly without discussing the proponents of the bill in public domain is befooling the hill people, Wahidur urged political leaders not to play with the sentiments of the people and try to weaken their unity just to get some votes in the election.
