CM assures MIK campus at Wakha

Chief Minister N Biren has said that a permanent campus of Manipur University of Culture (MUC) will be constructed at Wakha in Imphal East at a cost of Rs 31.18 crore and the government is waiting for environment clearance from the ministry.
He gave the information in response to a policy cut motion moved by opposition member Surjakumar Okram during the discussion on demand for grant of art and culture in the assembly session on Tuesday.
The CM said that the present campus of MUC is a rented facility and the government has earmarked 38.81 acres at Wakha in Imphal East for construction of a permanent campus of the university for which premium of Rs 4,97,85,500 had been paid on February 21, 2020 .
While expressing confidence that ministry will soon give the environmental clearance, Biren said that construction will begin as soon as the clearance is received.
He also informed that the university will be constructed under PM DevINE scheme and recruitment process for 73 posts in the university had begun from April 6 last year.
At the same time, infrastructure of DM University and Manipur Technical University will also be constructed under PM DevINE scheme, he added.
In relation with a question on Manipuri film industry, the CM said that there is a burning question on the sustainability of the industry after declaring it as an industry even though the Centre had issued instruction for taking up necessary measures in this regard.
However, the government is taking up various initiatives to promote Manipuri films under Manipur State Film Development Society, Biren added.
