7 honoured at Irawat tribute event

Imphal, September 30 2022:
Irawat Celebration Committee (ICC) observed the 123rd birth anniversary of Jana-neta Hijam Irawat at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound, here, on Friday.
As part of the event, a rally with a life-size photo of Jananeta Irawat was carried out from Irawat Bhavan Complex to Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, where floral tributes were paid.
The observance was attended by MSC/CPI Control Commission chairman Langol Iboyaima, ICC president Dr M Nara, MSC/CPI ex-secretary L Thoiran, MSC/CPI ex-secretary L Sotinkumar, All Manipur Nupi Marup founder member Maibam Kadambini and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council president Maibam Pumimasi Leima as presidium members.
During the observance, 7 prominent personalities were honoured.
'Hijam Irawat Ningsing Man 2022' was presented to Potsangbam Sonamani Singh and 'Thiyam Meghachandra Journalist Award' to Maibam Dhanabir Meetei, each carrying cash prize and citation.
Moreover, 'Thokchom Achouba Integrity Award' was presented to Bungnaoshang (Ashang) Kasar, 'Hijam Achou Sinmi Award' to Thungujam Ibohanbi Singh, 'Khangjrakpam Mani Driver Award' to Thangjam Chandrakumar Meetei, 'Moirangthem Leibakleima Lilaroi Award' to Sorokhaibam Robindro Singh, and 'Nongthombam Iboton Teacher Award' to Lourembam Ibemcha Devi.
Each of these awards carries cash prize, shawl and citation.
Speaking on the occasion, ICC president Dr M Nara informed that the observance was held after being suspended for two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.
He then said that the Jananeta Irawat Day is being observed in other states and in neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar, while voicing the need for leaders who could put an end to corruption and narrow minded politics.
CPI State Council ex-secretary L Sotinkumar stressed the need to discuss Irawat's life, his teachings and vision for the sake of a better future, both in the state and all over the world.
Later, a march past competition was organised in different categories.
On the other hand, Lamyanba Irawat Ningsing Thouram Observation Committee (LINTOC) convener Konthoujam Thoiba urged the present generation not to forget the contributions made by Hijam Irawat during the observance of the 123rd birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irawat at Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College, here, on Friday.
During the observance, which was held under the theme "Lamyanba Irawat for humankind", Thoiba said that Irawat's vision was to see an independent Manipur.
