Pioneers of the Manipuri cinema hailed, feted

Imphal, December 31 2021: As a part of the year-long golden jubilee celebration of the Manipuri Cinema (1972-2022), Manipur film personalities were honoured on Friday at Palace Auditorium, Manipur State Film Development Society.

Governor La Ganesan and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba felicitated 31 personalities including actor, producer, director, music director, playback singer, screenwriter, cinematographer, sound recordist, lyricist, cine exhibitor, projectionist, make-up artist, mechanic, gaffer/light, screenwriter, film critic, editor and producer.

In his address as the chief guest, La Ganesan said "It is, indeed, a matter of great satisfaction to know about the invaluable contributions made by the pioneers of Manipuri Cinema who had made tireless efforts to uplift Manipuri films to greater height during the last five decades.

Cinema had taken a big role in shaping the society and giving a face to the state in the field" .

He appreciated Manipur Film DeJ velopment Society for "invaluable felicitation of pioneers of the Manipuri cinema" .

The Governor further said: "Making of cinema today is based on transmitting good amount of message for society, as it highlights the ills and ingrained socio-economic and cultural problems concentrated in our society.

Cinema helps society in general and individual in particular in bringing happiness, peace and tranquillity, prosperity and harmony and creating cordial ambience to live amicably" .

"Celebration of Golden Jubilee of an institution or organisation is a proud moment for the institution as well as for the people of the state.

The contributions made by the pioneers of Manipuri Cinema to promote the state's culture and art are, indeed, commendable and praiseworthy by one and all", he added.

Before starting the programme, "Glimpse of Manipuri Cinema", a highlight of the 50 years journey of Manipuri Cinema was also screened.

Apart from MP Leishemba Sanajaoba who presided over the event, a number of film personalities and film lovers of the state were also present on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that the year-long golden jubilee celebration of the Manipuri Cinema started from April, 2021 .
