Imphal, September 24 2022:
Thangmeiband MLA Khumukcham Joykisan has said that there is no question of leniency in GG Rongmei's case and he will do the needful to bring him to justice.
Addressing a press meet at his Khoyathong residence on Saturday morning, Joykisan said that some sections of the society are raising questions on his stand over the case after he joined BJP and clarified that the case has nothing to do with him joining BJP or not and he will take up necessary initiatives to ensure justice in the case.
It was him who made public discrepancies through the media, which led to the identification of GG Rongmei and his subsequent arrest.
Later, an enquiry committee of IMC also found him guilty and asked him to pay back the fund he had withdrawn without executing works.
Services of three engineers have been terminated for their involvement in the case while one has been suspended.
It is a stern action against corruption by the government, the MLA elaborated.
While informing that GG Rongmei is currently out on bail, Joykisan asserted that there is substantial evidence of him (Rongmei) misappropriating taxpayers' money and the authority is taking up necessary steps to recover the fund.
Police are also investigating the matter, he said and confided that the authority will conduct spot verification by engaging a senior officer not below the rank of executive engineer from another department.
GG Rongmei will also be given fair chance to engage an engineer of his choice for transparent and fair verification process, he added.
Regarding the claim of MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra about Rs 300 crore PMGSY scam, for which RD&PR minister Y Khem-chand had made clarification, the MLA said that the constitution gives right to investigate any such matter involving public money to the Public Account Committee (PAC) of the state assembly.
MLA Meghachandra is the chairman of PAC and he (Joykisan) is also a member.
He has submitted a proposal to the chairman to find out the truth behind the PMGSY project so that appropriate actions could be taken up against any person found guilty, he stated.
