Parliamentary secretary Meghachandra, on the sidelines of his inspection, stated that the cleanliness drive was undertaken in consideration of the impending impacts of pollution on health of people residing in the surrounding area, as well as following the application submitted by the vendor women of Tampha keithel and new market for undergoing a cleanliness drive.
Disclosing that the kiosks which are now being constructed at the campus of CHC Yairipok are not meant for any private owner, the MLA informed that constructions are done with a decision of the hospital authority and from his local area development fund.
The shops will be rented on lease and only things related to medical health will be made available at these shops, he said while adding that this is done to check the sale of duplicate drugs in the market.
Another objective of the shops construction is to prevent encroachment of lands inside hospital campus, Meghachandra explained, adding that the kiosks will remain as assets of the hospital and incomes accrued from it will be utilised in management of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the women vendors who lauded the actions of the MLA and his companions in cleansing and repairing the roads and drains, clarified that the Yairipok Bazaar Bandh and sit-in protest staged on July 19 last was due to misunderstanding among themselves.
