Kangpokpi, September 13 2022:
Haikot Village Authority vehemently condemned the alleged highhandedness of state forces and the survey team that led to injury suffered by a woman during tear gas shelling while protesting against the land survey and geo-tagging of the highway between Sangshak and Tengnoupal Road on Monday.
The village authority stated that in connection with the land survey and geo-tagging of the said highway stretch, a survey team under the protection of state forces was sent to the National Highway 102A which passes through the land of Haikot village.
It further stated that the move was opposed by the Haikot villager's as the measuring and geo-tagging of the land in question was based on the fact-finding committee of 2002 which is not recognised by the Haikot villagers since it contradicted the traditional boundary which has been maintained for generations between Haikot village and Khoibu (Khongthel) village.
It also recalled that an appeal (dated 10/09/2022) was made to the DC Tengnoupal not to conduct the survey based on the faulty proceedings of the fact-finding committee 2002.Despite the appeal, the government agency carried out the survey and also fired teargas toward the Haikot villagers causing panic among the villagers and injuring a woman with a tear gas shell on the head.
She is currently hospitalised, the village authority added.
While vehemently condemning the alleged dastard and violent act of the survey team and the state force, the Haikot Village Authority also condemned the subsequent imposition of 144 CrPC in such a remote village while allowing the government agency to carry on with the survey.
"Such discriminatory acts should be condemned by all right-thinking citizens," it added.
The village authority further stated that as per the official survey conducted by SDC Tengnoupal in 1991 on the instructions of DC Chandel and SDO Tengnoupal vide Memo No 5524 dt 22/11/91, the affected land of Haikot village by the highway is 1.5 Km.
The Haikot village shall accept the measurement and geo-tagging only if it is done in accordance with the 1991 official survey, it added.
The village authority also appealed to the authorities concerned not to proceed with the alleged biased land survey and geo-tagging until the issue is resolved amicably.
