Bishnupur, June 06 2022:
Pregnant women should consult with their local Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker during their pregnancy period as the government is providing free medicine if admitted in hospital, said Oinam assembly constituency Ward Number 4/5 ASHA worker Thiyam Premila.
Speaking to TPC, Premila recalled her recent experience where a pregnant woman from her neighbourhood went into labor on May 29 and she had to deliver the child at home without any equipment or preparation as the woman and her family did not inform her about the pregnancy.
As she was not consulted the woman did not take any iron, calcium or folic acid tablets or underwent any tests during her pregnancy.
Fortunately, the delivery was safe and she gave birth to a male child, after which she was taken to District Hospital, Bishnupur where she was diagnosed with lack of blood and was transfused a bottle of blood under Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK), she stated.
Th Premila mentioned that though ASHA workers are not trained for medical emergency, but by consulting them pregnant women can avail the benefit of government schemes which are totally free.
She reiterated that pregnant women should contact their respective ASHA workers during their pregnancy to avoid any emergency like the one she faced recently.
