Imphal, September 30 2022:
While urging those who are opposed to legalisation of liquor to work together with the government considering the benefits it will bring, Patsoi AC MLA Sapam Kunjakeshor (Keba) has remarked that failure to do so would only contribute to the rise of deaths due to alcoholism.
Kunjakeshor said that only 20-25 per cent of the population are averse to any development work undertaken by the Biren-led government.
He then urged for full support to the government's war on drugs campaign and legalisation of alcohol, while keeping aside political differences.
He said that for the government, legalisation of alcohol is putting human lives at the foremost, while keeping revenue generation secondary.
It must be noted that it is difficult to completely ban alcohol in the state, resulting in deaths due to alcoholism.
Nonetheless, the government is preparing to produce a white paper on the legalisation and as such, he urged all concerned to work with the government to save human lives.
He made the statement during a function held for release of fingerlings in Khamnam Leirak and Heinoubok community ponds and inspection of the road repair work at Sapam Leirak on Friday.
Keba then highlighted the development works taken up in the constituency and sought the cooperation of the people in making Patsoi a green, drug-free and self-sustainable constituency.
