Noney, September 29 2022:
Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) Longmai Luangrian and Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA) together with village authority chairmen and secretaries on Thursday inspected the ongoing blacktopping work and other construction activities in Noney sector of the NH-37 (Imphal-Jiri road).
In Noney section, the double lane expansion works including blacktopping work and construction of slab culvert, drainage and retaining walls have been undertaken by M/S Ghanpati Builders and M/S Mehta Construction Company under the supervision of National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The inspection team found that the contractors or the construction company used low quality bitumen for blacktopping of the road (NH-37) and also found inadequacy in thickness of the bituminous layer against the guidelines and norms laid down.
Several portions of the blacktopped road seem more like loose soil while at several locations, construction of culverts and retaining walls was found to be substandard.
The joint inspection team accompanied by media persons was led by Daigong Gondaimei, chairman RNCM Longmai Luangrian, and Adai Dangmei chairman VCLA.
Speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of the inspection, Adai Dangmei pointed out that in several locations and portions of the road (NH-37) within Noney district, the construction works were completed in just 2-3 days and cracks appeared due to the absence of quality control.
He then appealed to the companies concerned to maintain quality of the ongoing blacktopping work along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiri road) in Noney district.
If the ongoing blacktopping work and other related construction works fail to meet the guidelines specified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the VCLA and RNCM along with like-minded CSOs will approach the higher authorities for action against defaulters according to the laws of the land, the RNCM leader warned, adding that various forms of democratic agitation will be initiated if the companies concerned fail to take heed of their demand for quality control.
