Imphal, July 28 2022:
Electricity department chief engineer Hijam Santikumar has stated that Manipur will be able to supply electricity in a sustainable manner within the next 1-2 years.
Speaking during a Ujjwal Bharat, Ujjwal Bhavishya programme organised at Salam Mayai Leikai community hall, Imphal West district on Wednesday, Santikumar informed that that programme is being held as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration, with the aim to inform the masses about policies of central and the state governments to improve the power sector.
The programme has been organised in two places simultaneously since July 25 and will continue to be held till July 30, wherein PM Narendra Modi will hold a nationwide video conference to mark the end of the programme.
He then said that the state has witnessed many ch anges in the power sector over the last 5/6 years, particularly with regard to providing electricity to every household recorded in the 2011 census.
MSPDCL has been able to provide electricity to the people regularly.
On top of this, electricity is being provided in the remote areas under the DDUJY, IPDS and Saubhagya schemes, owing to the commission of the 400 KV line from Silchar to Imphal.
As such, there is no village in Imphal West district which does not have access to electricity.
Around 80,000 prepaid meters were installed last year alone and a target has been set to provide prepaid connection to the whole of the state by December this year.
MSPDCL and MSPCL, after sustained efforts, are now able to supply electricity 24x7, he said, while adding that the power situation improved in Manipur due to the understanding of the people, along with the efforts of the department, company, central and the state governments.
