Imphal, November 16 2014 :
While extending hearty wishes for the upcoming Sangai Festival, the Tribal Youth Council, Manipur (TYCM) has urged the Chief Minister on Saturday to bring a solution to the issue of contract teachers of the hills.
In a memorandum to Chief Minister O Ibobi, TYCM urged him to look into the service condition of 772 contract teachers of the hill districts already verified as 'genuine' by the Directorate of Education (S) and to regularise their service soon, a release said.
It said recent different memorandum of understandings (MoUs) signed between the Manipur Government and three tribal organisations including the All Tribal Students' Union (ATSUM) reached an agreement that the service of the contract teachers appointed in September 2006 will be "utilised until the posts are filled up on regular basis" through normal recruitment process among others.
The Directorate of Education (S) had on November 2011conducted physical re-verification and authenticated relevant documents of the 772 contract teachers who were declared to be genuine in the process, the release added.
It added that the Directorate and the Department concerned then put up the matter regarding extension or re-engagement order for the contract teachers with the higher authority, but no positive step has been taken by the authority to implement the order till date.
It further added that providing adequate number of teaching staff in the schools of the hills can ensure a good education system and urged the Chief Minister to bring a solution to the issue.
