Administrative / faculty block inaugurated

Imphal, December 03 2021:
Manipur University vice-chancellor professor N Lokendra inaugurated an administrative cum faculty block of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Utlou on Friday.
Chairman of the institute, former union minister Th Chaoba presided over the inauguration function which was also attended by Manipur University registrar professor W Chandbabu and member secretary cum director of the institute Dr RK Imotomba as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, professor N Lokendra praised the contribution of the institute in the field of agricultural sciences education.
He assured of all possible assistance from the side of Manipur University in getting central funding to improve the institute, which is affiliated under Manipur University.
Under the New Education Policy, educational institutions affiliated under universities will get skill development components and the new system with skill development and vocational courses will be implemented from the 2022-23 academic session, he said.
Th Chaoba said that there are still many areas where the Central Agricultural University at Iroishemba alone cannot bring development in agriculture and allied sector.
The institute was set with the objective to support the university and to help the students of the state, who could not get seats in the university so that they do not need to spend huge money for studies in other states.
He also stressed the need for setting up a fishery college to enhance fish production capacity through proper education in the state.
As of now, the institute is taking up initiatives to provide fish feeds to the fish farmers of the state.
It also has been successful in producing potential graduates in agriculture and allied sector in the last four years, he said and added that many of them are doing research works under Assam Agricultural University now.
A book titled 'Banana found in Manipur' written by the institute's assistant professor Dr Anupama was released as part of the function.
