Public consultation on AFSPA 1958 held

A one day public consultation on Armed Forces (Special Power) Act 1958 was organised by Village Development Committee, Tokpaching at Tokpaching Bamon Leikai, today .
S Megha, Pastor, Evangelical Church of India, N Nimai Meitei and Arunkumar Singh, Asst teachers at Tokpaching School attended the event as presidiums .
Kh Phajaton Mangang, Managing President Youth Forum for Protection of Human Rights, Netta, member of Village Development Committee and M Kalanjoy Singh, member of People for Human Rights and Climate Change attended the event as speakers of the event.
Speaking at the event Kh Phajaton Mangang alleged that article 22 of the Indian Constitution, Right to Life has been deprived by the article 4 of the AFSPA .
Netta while speaking about AFSPA, shared his testimony of alleged torture by the security forces in 2004 when he was returning home from a hard day work at his farm .
M Kalanjoy Singh alleged that the very act AFSPA 1958 is a factor which contributes to the mushrooming of insurgency groups in the State.
He asserted that when the act was first enacted, there was only one insurgent group namely NNC .
The public consultation condemned and denounced the draconian AFSPA 1958 and its further extension of 1 year in Manipur.
