Kakching, August 03 2022:
Supporting MLA K Ranjit's statement in the assembly that wetlands are disappearing in Manipur, Kakching Khunou Development Committee (KKDC) has drawn the attention of the government towards rapid degeneration of Pumlen pat owing to increasing number of fish farms in the area.
Speaking on the sidelines of joint inspection of the water body by its members and media persons on Wednesday, KKDC secretary Thingnam Rishikesh termed as unfortunate that the statement made by MLA K Ranjit in the assembly for conservation of Loktak lake and other wetlands have been politicised by one Pumlen Yangbi Development Organisation (PYDO) through issuance of counter statement and holding road blockade.
He mentioned that MLA K Ranjit had only spoken about saving Pumlen pat in the assembly.
The worsening condition of the water body is known to all, which has been drastically shrunken because of rising number of fish farms around the lake.
Rishikesh continued that the MLA's statement was made with the intention of saving the wetlands and environment and was not made for his own gain or directed towards PYDO or any particular person living near Pumlen pat.
PYDO members should not misunderstand the statement, instead all should work together to save Pumlen pat, he further appealed.
The inspection visit was also participated by KKDC president Kn Babu and other committee members.
