Imphal, June 01 2022:
In continuation of the brain storming session 'Nav Sankalp' being organised by Congress party in Rajasthan on May 14 and 15; Manipur Pradesh Congress Commit tee (MPCC) also inaugurated a two-day state-level 'Nav Sankalp' programme at the party's office here on Wednesday, The programme will feature discussions on strategies to be adopted to ensure Congress' victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to newspersons, ex-MP Dr Th Meinya recounted that the Congress party has been working for the welfare of the people since the freedom movement.
The party ensured reservation of seats for women at Panchayat and local body levels; inclusive government since 2004; tried to bring about equal development from the grassroots level via schemes like MGNREGS, etc.
However, when the Covid-19 pandemic struck and the entire country was put under lockdown, the economy went downhill, while there was huge disparity between jobs and trade; micro industries started dying after GST was reintroduced, not to mention of the rising high unemployment rate and prices of essential items, all of which are man-made problems.
Thus, the Nav Sankalp programme was launched from Udaipur in Rajasthan amidst these situations, he added.
Dr Meinya continued that during the programme, discussions would be held on political affairs, economic, social justice, farmers, workers and youth, in addition to strategising for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in 2024 so as to ensure success from the top level to the grassroots level.
If the party is able to hold the reins in Delhi, it would be able to form the government in Manipur as well, he remarked and said that the party will continue to work for the people with a selfless mindset.
In his speech, MPCC spokesperson Ningombam Bhupendra informed that during the two-day long session, Congress leaders will speak on six main topics.
On Thursday, MPCC president K Meghachandra will speak on 'Nav Sankalp Declaration of Chintan Shivir in Udaipur'; CLP leader O Ibobi on 'Resolution on Political Group'; ex-MP Dr Th Meinya on 'Resolution on economic Group'; and himself on 'Resolution of Youth Group at Sankalp Declaration of Chintan Shivir in Udaipur'.
Ex-deputy CM Gaikhangam and ex-minister M Okendro will also be speaking at the programme.
