World No Tobacco Day observed

Directorate of Health Services Manipur and SHC National Health Mission Manipur in collaboration with Sangai Youth Tobacco Free Educational Organisation, observed World No Tobacco Day at Manipur Press Club today.
The event organised under the theme 'Tobacco breaks hearts' was attended by National Health Mission Manipur State Mission Director N Bandana as the chief guest, Directorate of Health Services Manipur Director Dr K Rajo as the president All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) president in charge K Saroj Sharma and Education (S) senior research Laishram Ibochaobi as well.
Speaking at the event, N Bandana appealed to the people of the State to refrain from using tobacco products like cigarettes, pan etc as a part of the World No Tobacco Day.
Many women nowadays are able to eat four to five pans per day but still complain that they do not have enough money to buy essential items, she lamented.
Bandana explained that smoking cigarettes affect not only the smoker but also those individuals near him/her.
Smoking cigarettes, eating pan or using tobacco products by pregnant women are also very harmful for the unborn child.
It is common knowledge that using tobacco products causes cancer and even heart problems, but using such items even after knowing the dangers it poses is not a very good practice, she added and appealed to the people give up such habits and bring development to the society.
On the other hand, Dr K Rajo said that people should refrain from using tobacco products as it causes adverse effects to their bodies.
On the other hand, Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA) also observed World No Tobacco Day at its office at Konung Mamang today.
Heart surgeon, Dr Ksh Kala, CADA president in charge Hijam Priyokumar, All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj president Th Rumani and LMS Law College reader, Advocate Dr Ch Narendra attended the event as the presidium members.
