Imphal, January 28 2022:
Reacting to the statement made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who said that Manipur has been a part of the history of Bharat since the time of Mahabarat during a book release function held at Rajashri Bhagyachandra Skill Development Centre, Haraorou on January 24, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has asserted that such statement is misleading the history of Manipur and will lead to teaching of a distorted history to the present and future generations. In a release, HERICOUN vice president Laishram Sanajaoba Meetei questioned the source of the claim made by the RSS chief.
He should clarify whether he knowingly or unknowingly made the statement through print and electronic media.
RSS branches in the state and its members should sincerely help in making their chief clarify on his misleading statement, the Council advised.
Pointing out that several meetings were convened and resolutions adopted to make it clear that the present Manipur is not related to the 'Manipur' in Mahabharat, Sanajaoba said that Mahabharat is considered to be a fiction and not even a real story.
It is not a history.
Combining fiction and history will eventually make a distorted history, he maintained.
Sanajaoba said that the name 'Manipur' was given at around 18th century.
It is vividly written in the history that it was not called as Manipur previously.
There are many who disliked calling the land as 'Manipur' .
As several issues have been tangled, the situation of renaming the land in accordance with its indigenes has not arrived yet and people of the land are yet to take such a decision.
Amidst the struggle to move to the right path after living in desperation following adoption of cultures, traditions and religion of others as their own, the indigenes should remain alert and cautious of political leaders of India and renegades of the state who are trying to mislead the people towards the wrong path again.
It is time for the people to know themselves and preserve the right history of the land properly and remove all the wrong ones to protect their identity, he urged.Sanajaoba further exhorted all historians, experts and legislators of the state to make the people aware about the correct history of the land. The patriots of Manipur who fought against colo-nial British have been enlisted as freedom fighters of India by Indian leaders.
Will such act be desired by the ancestors, he questioned.
Some leaders are also boldly claiming the Manipuri patriots are freedom fighters of India.
Should the people accept such claim, he further asked, while adding that such act of the state leaders is also misleading the history and teaching wrong history to the future generation. The sentence 'The Indian tricolour flag was hoisted for the first time on sacred soil of India by the Indian National Army on 14th April, 1944' inscribed on the plaque of INA memorial complex at Moirang by state art and culture department also distorts the history.
Moirang was never a part of India in 1944.Ma-nipur only became a part of India in 1949 .
So, the words 'on the sacred soil of Moirang' will be the correct one instead of 'on the sacred soil of India', he opined.Regarding a poster on social media about Khabeisoi renamed as Azam Nagar, he appealed to use the previous name Khabeisoi instead of the new one if the poster on the social media is true.
He urged all to use indigenous names in naming people, places and markets.
