Imphal, August 23 2022:
The Department of Agriculture has commenced exporting 2 metric tonnes of Chak-hao (black rice), produced by firms registered under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER), to be branded and sold in Delhi.
The Chak-hao was sold by farmer producer company, Poireiton Organic Producer Company Limited to Sikkim State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Ltd (SIM-FED) , which is a registered service provider under MOVCDNER in the north east region.
Earlier, an MoU was signed with SIMFED to provide 10 MT of Chak-hao this year, of which 2 MT was sent to Delhi as the first consignment.
The consignment was flagged off from the organic outlet near Sanjenthong by former agriculture department additional director Todinang Panmei.
Speaking on the sidelines, Todinang informed that the earlier issue of lack of a marketing platform has been resolved with these new marketing opportunities and as such, farmers should avail the benefits of cultivating Chak-hao crop.
SIMFED senior consultant C Mohanty said that the Federation has been working with 19 states.
After this first consignment from Manipur, the Federation will market other value added products of Chak-hao, he added.
