Imphal, January 22 2023:
While announcing boycott of India's Republic Day celebrations in Manipur, the armed Kangleipak Communist Party-MC (Progressive) has imposed general strike on January 26 from 5am to 12 pm .
The general strike, how ever, will be relaxed for medical, fire service, media and emergency serices, informed KCP-MC (Progressive) in a statement.
According to KCP-MC (Progressive), Republic Day celebration of India indeed is not only a poison for Kanglei people but a joyous occasion for India to dishonour the sovereign history of Kangleipak.
Kangleipak came under colonial British India af ter the defeat in the Anglo- Manipuri War of 1891 but regained freedom from the British on August 14, 1947 .
Kangleipak had its own Constitution and democratically elected government after the British left.
However, the then constitutional head king Bodhchandra was forced to sign the merger agreement in Shillong on September 21, 1949, which came into effect from October 15 the same year.
Since then, Kanglei people became slaves of India and facing a dark colonial history.
To regain the lost sovereignty, many armed groups including Kangleipak Communist party Military Council (Progressive) have been fighting India, the outfit said.
