ZFOs press for AFSPA repeal

Imphal, July 21 2013:
Zeliangrong frontal organizations (ZFOs)have urged Union minister of State for Sports and Youths Affairs who is also the Union Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh to repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Manipur and also to expedite the Naga peace process.
Submitting a joint memorandum to the Union minister at Nungba in Tamenglong district this afternoon, Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur (ZBM), Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Zeliangrong Peoples Co-ordination Committee, Zeliangrong Students Union and Manipur (ZSUM) and Zeliangrong Baudi, Women Wing have urged Jitendra Singh to repeal the AFSPA from Manipur at the earliest and also to expedite the Naga peace talks.
The memorandum further urged Jitendra Singh to start the tripartite talks involving the UNC, Delhi and Manipur government on the 'alternative arrangement' soon.
Other points mentioned in the memorandum are to hand over the Tamenglong-Khongsang road to BRTF.
The Zeliangrong frontal bodies also urged the Union minister to hand over the 91.5 km long Tamenglong-Tousem-Haflong road to the BRTF.
The memorandum then urged the Union minister to construct pucca bridges over Irang, Barak and Makru rivers.
The Zeliangrong frontal organisations then said exploitation of natural resources should be prevented.
