Imphal, January 20 2022:
National People's Party (NPP) intending candidate L Jayananda has sent a legal notice to intending Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Khuraijam Ratankumar on Thursday over the latter's remarks made against Jayananda's father Laitonjam Inao that is being circulated on socialmedia.
Speaking to newspersons at the Konsam Leikai office NPP Khurai unit on Thursday, Jayananda informed that he was made known about Ratankumar's offensive remarks made against his (Jayananda) family during a one-day political conference organised by Khurai Block Congress at Kangla Sangomshand on January 4.Initially, he took it as gibberish associated with the polls.
However, he cameacross a viral video of Ratankumar's remarks, which was uploaded by workers and supporters of Khurai AC MLA L Susindro on social media platforms, wherein the latter made the degrading remarks against his family including accusing his father of Inao of indulging in corrupt activities.
After consulting with his central committee and legal advisors, he decided to send the legal notice to Ratankumar, Jayananda said.
"Although Ratankumar's remark could necessarily invite a defamation suit, it is common for people to make a mistake.
Thus, in consideration of the people of the constituency, it was decided to give Ratankumar five days' time to clarify himself'to the people.
If he fails to do so, I am ready to file criminal defamation suit and fight for justice no matter how many years it takes," Jayananda stated firmly.
Stating that all know Ratankumar to be a weak-willed person, taking into account of his behaviour of supporting the current MLA after failing to get BJP ticket in the last polls; Jayananda also commented on current MLA L Susindro's act of laying foundation stones and inaugurating many incomplete projects in Khurai AC including Lamlong market, which he (Jayananda) had questioned through the media.
"The circulation of the video of Ratankumar's remarks has raised suspicion of a possible collusion between him and the MLA.
Nonetheless, even if all the other intending candidates are standing on one side, I am prepared to stand on the side of the people of Khurai," he stated.
Regarding his father Laitonjam Inao, Jayananda said that his father worked hard as a Shaktiman driver and later, started a business.
Luckily, he became a successful entrepreneur as the proprietor of LI Steel.
"My father, according to Ratankumar's qualification, may be wealthy, but he also has a strong sense of moral discipline.
I will not dabble in such low politics just for the sake of winning the polls.
The people are well aware of incidents related to corruption and they are the ones to make the final decisions.
If it is one's preference to degrade others for the sake of winning the elections, he/she can continue to do so.
However, they must be ready to face the legal consequences if they cross the line," Jayananda remarked.
