Dr Nara stresses on protection of one's cultural identity

The celebration of 35 years' journey of Ranjit Adhikarimayum in Manipuri Dance and the closing function of 60-day advanced training course of Manipuri cultural dance were organized by Dance Drama Music Repertoire Union, Manipur at the Garden Theatre of Government Dance College, Palace Compound here on Sunday.
The function was attended by former Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University Prof H Tombi as Chief Guest and Director of Art and Culture Department Dr K Sobita as President, while former Art and Culture Minister Dr M Nara and President of Critic Forum, Manipur Prof IS Kangjam attended as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Prof Tombi said that the Manipuri culture is quite unique and distinct from others.
It has been in existence for more than 4000 years.
"Lai Haraoba" and "Jagoi Raas" are some remarkable Manipuri art forms which are well-known throughout the world, he noted.
Former Minister Dr Nara, who is also the President of IPTA Manipur, observed that songs and dances are not only the elements of culture.
The Manipuris are culturally advanced people and they should strive to protect their own cultural identity, he exhorted.
Prof IS Kangjam said that the artistes should be encouraged by all to promote rich art and culture of the state in the world.
Noted artiste Ranjit Adhikarimayum asserted that the myriad art forms of Manipur have high theoretical and technical aesthetic values.
Various cultural programmes were also presented during the function.
