Abducted Jessami villagers freed

Imphal, November 12 2011:
Five Jessami villagers who have been abducted in the afternoon yesterday by some villagers from the neighbouring Nagaland while they were cutting trees within the border of Manipur were reportedly set freed late evening yesterday.
According to information received from the police, the spot from where the five Jessami villagers have been abducted is located around 6 kms from Jessami village and around 25 kms from Nagaland border.
Jessami villagers have been practising Jhum cultivation for ages in the said area.
On receiving the report of the abduction, SP of Ukhrul district established contact with his counterpart, SP of Phek district to secure the safe release of the abducted villagers.
It may be noted here that there has always been tension between the villagers of Jessami and Nagaland over border dispute.
